The newest exhibit to grace the walls of the Charles W. Harris Art Gallery is a truly eclectic example of works by members of the Independence House. An organization serving Lee, Scott and Wise Counties and the City of Norton, VA. The Independence House began providing service in 1986 to members of our community with mental illnesses. Their "model of therapy focuses on rehabilitation through work and socialization". The organization teaches methods of recovery for its members through communication, social opportunities, outreach programs, fund raising, trips and men's and women's clubs.
We are excited to provide another opportunity to our community by presenting the first over exhibit by the Independence House and its participating members. The exhibit will be housed in the gallery from June 4, 2018 through July 27,2018. The gallery is open during normal library hours and persons are encouraged to stop by and browse the exhibit in a self-walking tour.
There will be an open reception for the Independence House club members on June 26, 2018 from 2~4 pm at the gallery. Club members and the general public are invited to this event to show support for the exhibit, the artists, the Independence House and the Charles W. Harris Art Gallery.
